When Edelman's college career came rolling around, he attended College of San Mateo and Kent State University. Edelman was still seen as someone who was small and was not recruited out of high school. One of his teammates at Kent State thought that Edelman was a kicker when he walked onto the field, another person not seeing Edelman's ability. Edelman attended the Junior College of San Mateo where he and his team were ranked eighth in the country after winning the "Bulldog Bowl." Edelman said in an interview that attending San Mateo led him to having a bad experience/memory there. Him and his team were going to play their rival, which was San Francisco City College. The bad memory that haunts him is that they lost the game after being up 17 points. Both teams had been working with each other and fighting for the win, but Edelman and his team had lost the game. The next stop in Edelman's dream to the NFL, was Kent State University. Since he attended Junior College, he could be accepted to Kent State University after a year. Julian transferred to Kent State and continued to play football for the Golden Flashes. Edelman played the position of quarterback and was a starter for the three years he was there. While at Kent State, Edelman was often on the leaderboards, whether it was for rushing yards per attempt or just total rushing yards. In 2008, his senior year of college, Edelman had the second highest amount of total rushing yards, at 1,370. He also had the first place amount of rushing yards per attempt with a 6.4. Edelman's senior year, he was the lead passer and threw 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Edelman didn't attend the combine, but he did attend the Pro Day. Edelman stated in an interview that on his Pro Day, scouts weren't there to see him, they were there to see another player. That day, he proved to have an impact and drew the attention of the scouts. While he was being a successful quarterback for the school's football team, Edelman also had to major in some field. He majored in Business Communications and graduated in the class of 2009. Edelman's size had not stopped him to continue to live his dream of playing in the NFL.
